Charles Anderson Worsley, the second Earl of Yarborough, was born on April 12, 1809. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the county of Lincolnshire from 1831 to 1846. Among his other duties were Master of the Brocklesby Hounds and Grand Master of the Lincolnshire Freemasons. Worsley died on January 7, 1862.
John Charles Pelham, the eighth Earl of Yarborough, now holds the title.
To students of probability, the second Earl of Yarborough is immortalized for his bet, giving odds of 1000 to 1, that a hand of bridge or whist would contain at least one card of denomination 10 or above. A hand without such card is now called a Yarborough in his honor.
