Allegory of Fortune

Description

In the Allegory of Fortune a young man holds a batch of lottery tickets, which he has presumably drawn from the urn beside him. Fortuna, the goddess of fortune, holds a cornucopia. But note that she is sitting on a bubble, is wearing only one shoe, and that her gown is billowing--all signs that she may disappear in an instant. The painting was probably completed between 1535 and 1538.
